Our frying pan emitted irritating fumes. are they dangerous?

We had a stainless steel frying pan with a thick bottom. The bottom became warped, but we continued to use the pan. While cooking with it, the pan emitted irritating fumes that caused us to cough. We ume that the thick portion split with the top and there was an adhesive that seeped out at high pressure. Is there any danger here?
