Bible question about war and famine?

i was watching supernatural (great tv show, dean is so funny!) and there were two episodes that really interested me. they said that in the bible war rode in on a red horse and famine rode in on a black horse when the was a shooting star and then a river when polluted. is this true? are war and famine in human forms? and if it is true tell me the story and if there are more of them like death rode in on such a horse. thanks!
